This beautifully crafted Professional Ghanaian Djembe Drum is called a double rope drum in Ghana because twice as much rope is used to construct it as is used to make a normal drum. This tunes the drum up to a really precise pitch and ensures that the drum holds the perfect sound for a long time before it needs tuning. Using this much rope keeps the drum sound really precise and stable. The drum has a really deep bass and a sharp crisp edge slap.
 
The 11" is for adults with small hands or for secondary school children. This is a great starter drum. 
 
The wood, a West African Cedar called Tweneboa, is the very best quality, taken from the center of the tree. This central wood is darker and heavier and polishes up to a beautiful shine. The carving is superb, relief rather than carved inwards. I have put a few examples of the carving so you can see what is possible. The designs are Adinkra symbols, used in West Africa. If you look them up you can find their meanings.
 
These drums are fair trade and hand made in Ghana by professional African musicians. I have been working with these musicians for the last 20 years. These drums have been made to be played, for a beautiful sound.
 
The drums are reasonably light, lighter than hardwood drums, so are easily carried. Rope is used so the drums can be tuned to accommodate our changeable weather.
