Slightly more compact than the 16", the 14" dundun still delivers a powerful presence. Its body is adorned with vibrant West African fabric, adding unique character to each drum. While traditionally played as a set of three, it also sounds great on its own. Known for their deep, powerful bass, dunduns provide focus and rhythm for groups of djembe drummers and more.
Each drum in a traditional dundun set has a different tonal range based on its size, adding depth and variety to the ensemble sound:
- Dununba - the largest drum, producing a low, bass-heavy sound.
- Sangban - mid-sized, with a moderate pitch and role in both rhythm and melody.
- Kenkeni - the smallest, creating higher tones and sharper accents.
Made with durable cowhide drum heads for added strength, the dundun comes with a stick beater, which is how they are meant to be played.
The wood, Tweneboa, is a sustainable West African Cedar of the very best quality and is a lightweight wood compared to hardwood alternatives, making the dunduns easier to carry. The drum bodies are decorated with vibrant West African fabrics, each set featuring a variety of patterns. Due to the uniqueness of these fabrics, the drums may differ from those pictured, adding a distinct touch to each set.
