This beautifully crafted set of large, resonant dunduns, traditionally sold as a set of three, includes sizes of 10", 13", and 16", offering a slightly larger option than the other set. Known for their deep, powerful bass, they provide focus and rhythm for groups of djembe drummers and more.
Each drum in a traditional dundun set has a different tonal range based on its size, adding depth and variety to the ensemble sound:
- Dununba - the largest drum, producing a low, bass-heavy sound.
- Sangban - mid-sized, with a moderate pitch and role in both rhythm and melody.
- Kenkeni - the smallest, creating higher tones and sharper accents.
Made with durable cowhide drum heads for added strength, each set comes with stick beaters, which is how they are meant to be played. A dundun bell that can be attached to the drums is provided in the set, adding an extra layer of sound to your play.
Made from Tweneboa, a sustainable West African Cedar of a very best quality, the drums are carved with meaningful Adinkra symbols. Each drum is uniquely carved with its own symbols, giving it a personal touch. You can explore the meanings behind Adinkra symbols through various blogs like this. Tweneboa is also a lightweight wood compared to hardwood alternatives, making the dunduns easier to carry.
Unlike factory-made versions, these genuine fair-trade drums are handmade in Ghana by professional musicians, designed to be played and loved.
Every drum is handcrafted by skilled musicians we've partnered with for over 20 years, supporting and preserving ancient Ghanaian musical traditions.
The instruments are all individually handmade, rather than mass-produced in factories.
The body is made from sustainably sourced Tweneboa, a fast-growing wood, obtained under licence from the Ghana Forestry Commission.
Every drum is carefully tuned before being sent to you.
If you're looking for a genuine drum with heart, heritage, and a beautiful sound, this is it.
