An intricate large Fang Mask, hand carved in an artists' community north of Accra, Ghana. Fang masks are traditionally associated with initiation ceremonies and are instantly recognisable by their elongated form, with carved lines running from forehead to nose tip.
This example is carved from Tweneboa - African cedar - and dressed with recycled and scrap metal embossed with two giraffes among traditional patterns. Masks like this were worn in ceremony and dance, believed to carry the spirits of ancestors to the wearer; today they stand as powerful works of West African art.
One carver, one mask, one available.
Fair Trade and ethically sourced - a dramatic focal point for any room.
