Shekere

A proper Ghanaian shekere at a friendly size. A natural dried gourd is wrapped in a hand-knotted net strung with dozens of Job's tear seeds; shake it, twist it or percuss it against your palm and thigh for the bright, papery rattle that drives so much West African music.

Each one is handmade in Ghana on a naturally grown gourd, so shapes and tones vary - these are the smaller of the batch at around 15cm, which makes them ideal for children, classrooms and anyone adding texture to a percussion setup without hauling more kit.

Fair Trade and ethically sourced. Simple, satisfying and surprisingly expressive.
