Ankle Kola Nut Shaker

Rhythm you can wear. This traditional Ghanaian ankle shaker carries around sixteen kola nuts - halved, hollowed and individually strung - on a decorative fabric strap that fastens with Velcro, so it adjusts to fit any ankle.

Move gently and it gives a soft, water-like wash of sound; stamp or dance harder and it answers with a loud, sharp shake. Dancers use them to turn footwork into percussion, and drummers love them for adding a hands-free layer to their playing.

Each one is handmade in Ghana, and the fabric patterns vary, so every shaker is individual.
