This is the drum that anchors an ensemble. With a 13" head and a full-size carved shell, this extra large Ghanaian djembe delivers deep, booming bass notes and explosive slap tones that carry over a whole drum circle.
It is hand carved in Ghana from a single piece of Tweneboa, the local African cedar, by drummers who understand exactly what a lead djembe needs to do. The thick goat skin head is unbleached - nothing done to it that would weaken the skin or dull the sound - and it is laced with heavy-duty rope tuning that holds its pitch.
The Tweneboa wood is fast growing and purchased through the Forestry Commission of Ghana, and every shell is finished with individual hand-carved patterns, so each drum is one of a kind.
